Service Tools for Automotive Aftermarket

INFICON has recently launched a full line of handheld leak detectors for use specifically in service stations and garages. The new AST product line combines the experience in automotive production with yearslong experience from our service tools for the HVRAC market. These new handheld leak detectors use some of the same highly reliable sensing technologies as used in our leak detectors for automotive production, but have been streamlined to affordable levels for the typical intermittent only use in service stations. The leak detectors are made for detection of refrigerants as well as forming gas.

The AST leak detectors have been certified to fulfill SAE standards. These automotive service tools are developed and manufactured in our INFICON production facilities and sold through a network of service station suppliers, but also to large automotive vehicle manufacturers directly, if needed, in larger quantities.

Service leak detectors versus production leak detectors

While the AST product line is ideal for trouble-shooting in a service station to find out where the leak is in order to repair it, our production leak detectors are optimized for quality control in production lines. Production line leak detectors offer slightly higher sensitivity but most importantly, they offer real quantitative measurements. Production line leak detectors are typically calibrated (or the proper calibration is verified) on a daily basis. They show the leak test results as a numeric leak rate which can be calibrated traceable to national standards and can also be compared to a preset threshold value to generate a pass/fail result. Production line leak detectors offer interfaces for data tracking and transfer of results to quality data tracking systems.
