Accurate leak testing in production can be a challenge when big manufacturing variances occur, test points are hard to access and manual testing can be unreliable. A new video shows how pipe joints are tested fast and reliably with help of an automated leak detection solution including a visual analyzing system, developed by INFICON for the refrigeration industry.
The solution includes a leak detection unit with a patented sniffer tip, a robot arm, a 3D vision system with optimized software dedicated for this application and a test leak for calibration and verification. As the position of the connecting joints can vary, the 3D camera is used to scan, identify and locate every single joint to test. The robot arm with the sniffer tip is guided by the software to the test points with millimetric accuracy, ensuring a precise automated workflow. The new, patented sniffer tip encloses the pipe junctions and collects any escaping tracer gas, no matter if the leaking point is on the front or the back of the pipe, which can be hard to reach.
This robotic leak detection solution detects even the smallest leaks quickly, with high precision and repeatability. Actionable data can be seen in real-time, for example repeated bad weldings or possible faulty parts.
